The incident happened just a few meters away from the victim’s home and prompted an emergency rescue operation on Tuesday.
According to a report by James Agustin on *Balitanghali* on Thursday, the woman became dizzy and slipped near a plant box, causing her face to land on an iron bar used as fencing.
Emergency responders were immediately called to the scene in Barangay San Agustin.

Personnel from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office provided initial medical assistance by bandaging the victim’s head.
Members of the Quezon City Fire District’s Special Rescue Force then used a hydraulic cutter to safely cut the iron bar. Parts of the metal embedded in cement were manually chipped away to avoid worsening her injuries.
Senior Fire Officer 2 Richard Andrew Roces explained the difficulty of the operation.
“Ang naging challenge lang po sa amin siyempre nakatusok siya doon sa bakal. So hindi natin puwedeng basta-basta galawin. So nagdahan-dahan lang po tayo roon hanggang matanggal natin siya roon sa pagkatusok.”
Roces added that the victim narrowly avoided life-threatening injuries.
“Kahit papaano, pasalamat pa rin at walang tinamaan na vital. ‘Yung carotid artery, hindi masyadong nadale.”
Witnesses told authorities that the woman suddenly felt dizzy before slipping.
After nearly 20 minutes, the victim was carefully placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove the remaining metal. She is now recovering.
The Bureau of Fire Protection reminded the public to seek help immediately during similar emergencies.
“Tumawag agad tayo ng awtoridad at iwasan natin galawin basta-basta 'yung pasiyente," Roces advised.
In other developments, a long-serving teacher named Agnes Buenaflor of Pedro E. Diaz High School died after collapsing during a formal classroom evaluation on January 7, 2026. The 58-year-old educator reportedly lost consciousness in front of her students and observers and was given immediate first aid before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where she passed away hours later. Following the incident, the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition and other labor groups urged the Department of Education to review what they described as “oppressive” performance monitoring systems that may be adding to teachers’ work-related stress. DepEd Muntinlupa officials said they are deeply saddened by the loss of the “cherished mentor” and have begun looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident to help clarify what happened and extend assistance to the grieving family.
Meanwhile, Eduardo Rivera Regio has achieved his long-held dream of becoming a lawyer at nearly 60 years old after passing the 2025 Bar Examinations. His journey began in 1993 and spanned more than three decades, including 11 attempts that were often derailed by scores falling just below the 75 percent passing requirement. Regio’s breakthrough came after the removal of the “five-strike rule,” allowing him to take the exam once more. A former public servant, he said his final attempt was driven by a desire to leave a powerful example of perseverance for his five children. Now among the 5,594 passers out of more than 11,000 examinees, Regio has drawn widespread attention online, inspiring many with his message that success does not follow a fixed timetable.
