The fatal incident happened Tuesday in Barangay Mandangoa, according to a report by James Paolo Yap on GMA Regional TV One Mindanao aired Wednesday.

The victim, however, was hit by the truck and suffered fatal injuries.

Based on witness accounts, Balingasag Municipal Police Station Traffic Investigator Master Sergeant Bryan Baillo said the victim and his companion were only passersby who chose to help those already hurt in the earlier crash.

The driver of the wing van truck later explained to authorities that the vehicle’s brakes failed, forcing him to swerve to the right side of the road.

He added that he did not see the people ahead because a dump truck was positioned in front of him, blocking his view.

Aside from the man who died, seven other individuals sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

They were treated for their wounds and later declared out of danger.

Police said discussions were held among the truck owner, the family of the deceased, and those injured.

An agreement was reached in which the parties decided not to pursue legal complaints following the tragedy.

Man killed in brutal stabbing by girlfriend’s stepbrothers in Cagayan de Oro

The incident has since drawn attention to the dangers faced by motorists and bystanders on busy roads, especially during emergencies where seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

An earlier KAMI report detailed the brutal killing of a family of three inside their own store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage captured three men entering the shop, lowering the roll-up door, and shooting all three victims. One of the suspects was later seen taking a bag and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene. A separate report by Gary De Leon on TV5’s Frontline Pilipinas said the family had allegedly been receiving threats after lending ₱1 million to a fellow barangay resident, who reportedly planned to use the money to start a business.

In a separate incident that also drew widespread attention online, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her husband. According to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the 38-year-old suspect carried out the attack inside the school’s faculty room. Authorities said a security guard was on duty at the time, but the suspect was able to enter and leave the campus without trouble because he was known to people at the school. The suspect claimed he went there to talk to his wife and settle their problems, but their discussion allegedly turned into a heated argument that ended in violence.
