Police authorities in Legazpi City have commended a barangay tanod for his honesty after he returned a lost wallet containing P9,350 in cash, an act that quickly gained positive attention online.

The barangay tanod was identified as Rey Agripa Besmejo of Barangay Tula-Tula. According to police, Besmejo found the wallet and immediately decided to turn it over to authorities instead of keeping the money.

His action prompted the Legazpi City Police Station (LCPS) to recognize him publicly through a Facebook post, citing his integrity and describing his behavior as an example worthy of emulation.

In the same post, the LCPS appealed to the public for assistance in locating the wallet’s owner.

“Anyone who knows Rico Marvin Prellegera is encouraged to inform him that his lost wallet is currently being kept at the Legazpi City Police Station for proper claiming.”

The police also assured the public that the wallet and its contents were secured and would only be released after proper identity verification.

The appeal proved successful, as the owner later came forward to claim the wallet.

Police confirmed that the wallet was returned intact, with all its contents accounted for. The owner expressed his gratitude to Besmejo, thanking him for his honesty and integrity.

Besmejo’s simple yet commendable act did not go unnoticed by netizens, many of whom praised him on social media.

Several users highlighted his decision as a reminder that honesty and public service still thrive within the community.

Police officials said gestures like Besmejo’s help strengthen public trust in local safety officers and inspire others to act with integrity.

In an earlier local report by KAMI, a family of three was mercilessly shot and killed inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage showed three men entering the shop, closing the roll-up door, and then shooting the entire family to death. In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. Based on a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school’s faculty room. Police said the school had a security guard, but since the suspect was a familiar face, he was able to enter and leave easily. The suspect claimed he went there to talk to his wife and fix their issues, but the situation escalated into a heated argument.
