An eight-year-old child lost an index finger and a thumb after an incident involving a whistle bomb.

Both cases were classified as active injuries, which authorities say occur when a firecracker explodes while being held.

“Sure ako na yung mga batang ito ay humawak (ng paputok),” says DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo during an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.
He explained that such injuries are preventable if children are kept away from fireworks.
“Ang sinasabi po ng DOH, hindi dapat pinapahawak ang kahit na anong paputok, legal man o hindi, sa isang bata. Dahil hindi po siya… Isipin niyo po parang pinahawak niyo po ng baril or ng bomba ang bata,” Domingo adds.
From December 21 until 4 a.m. of December 27, a total of 91 firework-related cases were logged by 62 sentinel hospitals nationwide.
This figure is 34 percent lower compared to last year’s 137 cases, according to the DOH.
All recorded patients sustained multiple injuries and burns affecting different parts of their bodies.
Metro Manila reported the highest number with 40 cases, followed by Ilocos with 10 and Western Visayas with 8. Many of those injured were boys aged 10 to 14.
The illegal 5-Star firecracker was identified as the most common cause of injuries.
Other cases involved victims who were unsure what type of firecracker caused their wounds.
“Ito po yung mga kwento na naglalakad lang tapos biglang naitsahan or natamaan ng lumilipad na kwitis pero hindi sila sure kaya unknown,” Domingo explains.
Boga, Kwitis, and Triangle were also among the frequent causes. Domingo urged the public to seek immediate medical help for firework injuries and follow proper first aid procedures to prevent complications.
In a previous report by KAMI, the Bureau of Customs was said to have launched a deeper examination into the importation of roughly 40 luxury vehicles allegedly connected to the family of Sarah Discaya. The move came after an interview showcasing the family’s high-end car collection gained traction online. According to authorities, the BOC is reviewing import papers, shipping documents, and the identities of listed consignees to check for any possible violations of customs regulations. Public interest in the matter has grown further as Discaya has also been associated with contractors involved in flood control projects that are currently under scrutiny by the Senate. Around the same time, the reported passing of former Department of Public Works and Highways undersecretary Catalina Cabral added to the developments being closely followed by the public.
Separately, longtime broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas sparked conversation on social media after sharing a photo from her recent trip to Disneyland. In the image, she was seen posing in front of a palace-like attraction, which quickly drew attention online. Her caption, which began with “My P10 Million Palace,” prompted varied reactions from netizens. Some interpreted it as a humorous reference to earlier remarks made by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, while others viewed it as a lighthearted and playful comment.
