Police authorities said the bus originated from Quezon City and was en route to Sorsogon when the incident occurred during the early hours of Friday.

Initial findings suggest that the crash happened while the vehicle was navigating a stretch of road in Del Gallego, an area known for its winding routes.

The chief of the Del Gallego Police indicated that one possible cause being considered is driver fatigue. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver may have fallen asleep, which could have led to a loss of control and caused the bus to plunge into the ravine.

Aside from this, authorities are also checking whether the bus had any mechanical problems before the trip began.

As part of standard procedure, the condition of the vehicle and its maintenance records are being reviewed.

Witness accounts and statements from survivors are also expected to play a key role in determining what exactly led to the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the bus company involved has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Authorities said the firm has not commented while the investigation is still ongoing.

Police assured the public that a thorough probe will be conducted to establish accountability and help prevent similar accidents in the future.

In an earlier KAMI report, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) was reportedly conducting a closer review of the importation of around 40 luxury vehicles allegedly linked to Sarah Discaya’s family. The probe followed a viral interview showcasing the family’s collection of high-end cars. Authorities said the BOC is currently examining import documents, shipping records, and the names of declared consignees to determine whether any customs regulations were violated. Public attention has grown as Discaya has also been connected to contractors involved in flood control projects that are now under Senate review. Around the same period, reports of the passing of former Department of Public Works and Highways undersecretary Catalina Cabral added to the string of developments under close public scrutiny.
