Meanwhile, the PNP reported that from December 16 until 7:00 a.m. of December 26, seven individuals were arrested nationwide for indiscriminate firing of firearms.
These arrests were made in several regions, including Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Caraga, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the Negros Island Region.
Police officials emphasized that these operations are part of stricter efforts to curb celebratory gunfire during the holiday season.
The PNP has already warned both its personnel and licensed gun owners that a one-strike policy is being enforced, meaning immediate penalties for any violation.
PNP acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reminded the public of the dangers posed by irresponsible gun use.
“Ang baril ay hindi laruan at lalong hindi simbolo ng kawalan ng disiplina… Sa panahon ng selebrasyon, mas mahalaga ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa. I-celebrate natin ang Pasko at Bagong Taon nang ligtas, tahimik, at walang napapahamak,” he said.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report illegal gunfire as they work to prevent similar tragedies.
In a previous report by KAMI, the Bureau of Customs was said to have launched a deeper examination into the importation of roughly 40 luxury vehicles allegedly connected to the family of Sarah Discaya. The move came after an interview showcasing the family’s high-end car collection gained traction online. According to authorities, the BOC is reviewing import papers, shipping documents, and the identities of listed consignees to check for any possible violations of customs regulations. Public interest in the matter has grown further as Discaya has also been associated with contractors involved in flood control projects that are currently under scrutiny by the Senate. Around the same time, the reported passing of former Department of Public Works and Highways undersecretary Catalina Cabral added to the developments being closely followed by the public.
Separately, longtime broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas sparked conversation on social media after sharing a photo from her recent trip to Disneyland. In the image, she was seen posing in front of a palace-like attraction, which quickly drew attention online. Her caption, which began with “My P10 Million Palace,” prompted varied reactions from netizens. Some interpreted it as a humorous reference to earlier remarks made by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, while others viewed it as a lighthearted and playful comment.
