According to NCRPO, complaint showed that minors were making noise and lighting firecrackers.
Officer reportedly confronted the children and later pulled out his PNP-issued 9mm firearm.
He allegedly fired several shots in front of them.
Police said action caused fear, shock, and emotional stress to the children aged 10, 12, and 15 years old.
Guardians of minors filed complaints against the officer. Charges include grave threats in relation to Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
Case for indiscriminate discharge of firearms was also filed.
Authorities recovered officer’s service firearm during arrest. Items seized included a 9mm pistol, one magazine with three live bullets, one empty cartridge case, and his PNP identification card.
NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin strongly condemned the incident. He said abusive actions, especially involving children, have no place in police service.
He stressed that being a police officer does not give anyone the right to threaten or use violence.
Aberin also said law will be applied equally regardless of rank or position. NCRPO assured public that cases will move forward.
Suspect remains under police custody. He will face both criminal and administrative charges for violating PNP rules and regulations.
