According to police, the suspect suddenly entered the child’s home, grabbed a knife, and pointed it at the young victim.
Residents in the area witnessed the tense situation as the girl cried while people nearby attempted to talk to the man and calm him down.
Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Director PCol. Ceazar Cabuhat said the situation escalated when officers noticed that the child had already been injured and the suspect was no longer responding properly to negotiations.

“Noong mapansin ng tao natin na may dugo na kasi, sabi sa akin kanina na-interview ko yung pulis, pinapasuko na niya,” Cabuhat said.
He explained that the child was trying to stop the blade with her hands, which prompted immediate action from the responding officer.
“Naka ano yung kamay, pinipigilan ng kamay niya (biktima) yung blade ng hawak ng suspek natin,” he said.
Cabuhat added that blood was already visible on the child at that point.
“Tapos, meron na nakitang dugo sa bata, prompting him to fire,” he said.
The police officer then shot the suspect, which led to the child’s release.
“Natamaan yung suspek at na i-release ang bata,” Cabuhat said.
The child was immediately taken to a hospital after sustaining wounds to her cheek and arm. Authorities said the suspect was declared dead on the spot.
Police confirmed that the suspect’s identity remains unknown.
“Hindi siya kilala,” Cabuhat said.
He added that the man was not recognized as a resident of the area and may have been connected to ongoing construction activities in Ground Zero.
The Marawi City Police continue to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information about a missing relative who may have been in the area to coordinate with authorities.
As earlier reported by KAMI, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has been examining roughly 40 luxury vehicles believed to be linked to the family of Sarah Discaya. The investigation was sparked by a viral interview in which Discaya showcased their fleet of high-end cars, drawing the attention of authorities. Customs officials are now reviewing importation documents, including the declared consignees, to determine whether any rules were breached. Discaya has also been associated with contractors involved in flood control projects that remain under investigation by the Senate. In a separate update, reports have confirmed the passing of former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Catalina Cabral.
Meanwhile, journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas generated buzz on social media after sharing a photo on her Instagram page. The picture showed her standing in front of a palace-like structure during a trip to Disneyland. Using a humorous tone, Korina referenced a past issue in her caption, opening her post with the phrase "My P10 Million Palace." Many netizens took this as a playful allusion to allegations previously raised against her by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
