A 28-year-old female employee found herself in the middle of a nightmare after her entire left arm was violently pulled and trapped between the powerful rollers of the shop’s industrial dough machine.
The ordeal for the young woman was lengthy and excruciating. According to initial reports, the victim’s arm remained painfully pinned in the dangerous mechanism for nearly an hour.
Neighbors, alerted by the commotion and the shouts for help, rushed to assist, frantically attempting to free her by manually loosening the machine’s screws and bolts.
However, the heavy-duty and complex nature of the equipment quickly proved too difficult for common hand tools.
The situation demanded the immediate and highly specialized intervention of the Navotas City Fire Station Special Rescue Force (SRF).
Senior Fire Officer 2 Lope Claridad, the SRF team leader, confirmed that while the community’s attempt to aid the victim was vital, they had to employ precision extrication tools to ensure the worker’s arm was removed without compounding the existing injuries.
“Meron po kaming tools na ginamit... at within 5 minutes natanggal na namin yung roller pin,” SFO2 Claridad explained, emphasizing the need for both speed and technical care in the rescue.
Footage released by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Navotas showed the moment the rescue was completed, with team members immediately applying first aid to the severely injured limb.
The intense physical pain and profound psychological shock of the hour-long entrapment caused the victim to briefly lose consciousness, necessitating her immediate transfer to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
While the worker is currently unable to speak to the media, her brother provided an update on her condition.
He confirmed that although she is physically recuperating from extensive swelling and injury to her hand and arm, she is deeply shaken and remains heavily traumatized by the horrific experience.
In the wake of this severe incident, SFO2 Claridad issued a solemn safety advisory to all establishments that operate industrial machinery, particularly food preparation equipment like dough rollers and mixers. He stressed that operational knowledge alone is insufficient.
“It is crucial for employees to not only understand how the machine works and how to maintain it, but they must also be fully familiar with all established safety protocols,” Claridad warned.
He specifically reminded workers to consistently wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when operating such hazardous equipment to prevent future accidents that could lead to life-altering injuries.
In other news, a planned wedding in North Fairview was abruptly canceled on December 14 after the bride-to-be disappeared just four days before she was due to walk down the aisle. The 30-year-old woman, who works as a bookkeeper, was last observed on security camera footage near her residence after stating she was leaving to purchase her wedding shoes. Her distressed fiancé firmly stated that their relationship had no recent arguments and that the missing woman was enthusiastically anticipating their impending nuptials. Despite continuous efforts by her family and authorities, the search for the missing bride has not yet yielded any definitive clues regarding her current whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) swiftly imposed a 90-day temporary suspension on the driver’s license of a motorist involved in a highly publicized video physically assaulting a man pushing a cart. The widely circulated footage horrifyingly showed the driver hitting the cart-pusher on the back of the head, causing the victim's young daughter, who was nearby, to cry out in distress. Besides the suspension, the driver was served a Show-Cause Order, requiring him to present a formal defense to the LTO against the permanent revocation of his license. LTO Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao publicly denounced the road rage incident and guaranteed that the agency will pursue all available measures to deliver justice for the assaulted father and his child.
