The trio of friends, identified only by their aliases Alyas "Kalbo" (33), Alyas "Marvin" (21), and Alyas "Ryan" (21), were arrested this week following their alleged involvement in a string of recent robberies stretching across Rizal and Quezon City.
The most recent incident targeted a local burger store in Barangay San Jose. Police detailed the operation, which demonstrated a disturbing level of coordination.
Alyas Kalbo and Alyas Marvin allegedly carried out the holdup, stealing a tablet and approximately P5,000 in cash.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Arwyn Gaffud, the chief of the Rodriguez Police, explained the professional nature of the group.
"One goes inside, another acts as the spotter outside, and a third is ready on a motorcycle for the quick escape," Lt. Col. Gaffud noted, adding that the suspects did not hesitate to threaten the employees inside the store during the robbery.
Further investigation revealed that Marvin and Kalbo had previously teamed up with Alyas Ryan for another major theft at a gadget store just last November.
While only two participated in the burger store holdup, police believe the three were involved in multiple prior incidents.
While authorities managed to recover the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime and several unlicensed firearms, the stolen cash and gadgets have not been retrieved.
The most compelling, and perhaps most tragic, aspect of the arrests came during the suspects’ confessions.
Alyas Marvin readily admitted his involvement, citing "necessity" as the driving force behind their actions.
However, it was Alyas Kalbo, the oldest of the group, who offered a heartbreaking explanation, speaking through tears.
" Nagkayayaan po kami pero hindi po namin sinasadya na gawin ‘yon," Kalbo insisted, his voice choked with emotion.
He claimed that the urgency was fueled by extreme necessity. "Nagkaroon lang talaga ng matinding pangangailangan. Mareremata ho kasi ‘yung bahay namin. Napakasakit po. Hindi ko po makakasama ‘yung pamilya ko lalo na magpapasko na."
His plea painted a stark picture of desperation overriding basic morality.
In contrast, the youngest of the group, Alyas Ryan, denied complicity in the latest crime, insisting he was merely dragged into the activities after his recent release from jail.
"Kakalaya ko lang din po kasi. Napasama lang po ako. Sa korte na lang po ako nagpapaliwanag," he maintained.
The three men now face serious charges, including robbery and illegal possession of firearms. Their synchronized crime spree has ended with a joint stay in the detention facility, where their Christmas will be a grim reminder of the devastating personal cost of desperation.
In other news, a 54-year-old woman was immediately taken into custody while attempting to secure a police clearance after authorities discovered an outstanding warrant for qualified theft in her name. Her former employer has filed serious charges, accusing the woman of stealing close to P90,000 during her fifteen-year tenure as a household helper. Upon her arrest, the suspect initially admitted to being the individual named in the June 2022 warrant, yet she later retracted the statement, claiming ignorance of any case filed against her. The woman is now facing charges stemming from the theft warrant and must address the long-standing legal complaint filed by her accuser.
Still in other news, a man in Sadanga, Mountain Province, was apprehended after brutally beating a pet American Bully named Axel to death using a thick wooden plank. The suspect attempted to justify the fatal attack by alleging the dog had urinated on him, referencing an unverified local superstition that such an incident heralds bad luck. Mayor Robert Wanawan publicly denounced the senseless act, confirming that the perpetrator has been formally charged with violating the existing animal cruelty laws. While an animal welfare foundation pushes for immediate governmental accountability, local officials have begun developing a new ordinance intended to proactively prevent such violent incidents in the future.
