They placed stones behind the wheels to prevent escape and repeatedly ordered the suspect to step out.
Instead of surrendering, the man tried to reverse in an apparent bid to break free.
This forced officers to use their firearms and stones to smash the remaining glass, allowing them to finally reach the suspect.
Once the windows gave way, police pulled the driver out and placed him under arrest.
Investigators said the man allegedly took the SUV from the auto shop owned by his former boss.
It was the victim who alerted authorities, prompting the quick response. Police Major Ari Noel Cardos explained the possible motive behind the suspect’s actions.
"Sinesante siya sa work," says Cardos. He added that the dismissal was reportedly due to suspected drug use.
The pursuit created further problems along the way, with the suspect allegedly hitting several structures before being caught.
"There were instances na na-stop siya," says Cardos.
He noted that the man refused to surrender and left damage in multiple areas, including a sari-sari store and a residential property.
The suspect and the recovered SUV are now under police custody. GMA Regional TV is still attempting to reach both the suspect and the vehicle’s owner for their statements.
In Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, two communities are mourning the sudden deaths of a barangay councilor and an elderly man after their motorcycles collided head-on. Police said both men sustained severe head injuries, made even more fatal because neither of them had been wearing a helmet during the crash. Initial findings suggest that the accident happened when the older rider unexpectedly veered across the road and into the councilor’s lane. The passing of these well-regarded residents from Barangays Bay-ang and Santiago has left nearby towns stunned and grieving.
In a separate case in Batangas, operatives from the NBI-Batangas field office arrested a woman accused of generating fake digital payment receipts using AI tools. According to investigators, the scheme allegedly enabled her to obtain more than P33,000 worth of food and alcoholic beverages from a restaurant without actually paying. Authorities said she intentionally made her large orders during the busiest hours of operation to lessen the chances of staff verifying her payments right away. She is now detained in Batangas City and is set to face charges for estafa as well as multiple violations under the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
