Mandaue City experienced a massive fire in Barangay Paknaan in March 2025, destroying 177 houses and displacing around 805 residents, while a motorcyclist tragically died during the response. In Talisay City, Cebu, a June 2025 blaze in Sitio Mananga Dos destroyed 167 houses and damaged 22 more, reportedly caused by welding sparks in a densely populated area. Bacolod City also faced two November 2025 fires amid a blackout caused by Typhoon Tino, destroying 22 homes, displacing numerous families, but thankfully leaving no casualties.
A previous KAMI report covered the tragic killing of a family of three inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage revealed three men entering the shop, lowering the roll-up door, and shooting the entire family. Before fleeing, one of the suspects reportedly took a bag and a mobile phone belonging to the victims. According to Gary De Leon of TV5’s Frontline Pilipinas, the family had started receiving threats after lending ₱1 million to a local resident, who allegedly used the funds for a business venture.
In another widely reported incident, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was repeatedly stabbed by her husband. EJ Gomez of Unang Balita said the attack occurred inside the school’s faculty room. Authorities explained that although the school had a security guard, the suspect—who was familiar to the campus—managed to enter and exit the premises without difficulty. The husband stated he had gone to speak with his wife to settle a disagreement, but the conversation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
