The victim, known by the alias "Ondo" and aged 33, was ambushed by an unidentified assailant, highlighting the brutal and often short-lived freedom for individuals trying to reintegrate into the high-risk urban environment.
Authorities from Barangay 105 were alerted to the crime scene, located between Buildings 22 and 26, around 2:00 a.m.
Responding Manila Police District (MPD) officers from the Hom1cide Section found the victim’s body, confirming he had sustained a fatal bullet wound to the head. Investigators recovered three spent bullet casings from an undetermined caliber firearm at the site.
The most compelling detail of the tragedy is the victim’s recent release from detention. According to Imelda Bermejo, the desk officer of Barangay 105, "Ondo" had only been free for three days before he was killed.
Bermejo disclosed that the victim had been incarcerated following a prior altercation where he had allegedly stabbed another person.
The earlier complainant, however, reportedly chose not to pursue the case, leading to the victim's release.
The short window between his release and his murder immediately suggests that the motive behind the shooting may be rooted in prior grudges or revenge related to his past conflicts.
Before the shooting, the victim was reportedly seen drinking by his live-in partner at Building 9 before moving to Building 26.
The neighborhood, however, is now rife with conflicting information regarding the immediate circumstances of his death.
Some residents claimed that the victim had just committed a robbery, allegedly snatching a cellphone, moments before he was shot.
The fatal incident, which was not captured by any local CCTV cameras, remains under intense investigation by the MPD Hom1cide Section.
Police are working to determine the identity of the shooter and establish the definitive motive—whether it was a retaliation for his past actions, the alleged robbery, or a separate conflict entirely.
The tragic and immediate end to the victim's fleeting freedom underscores the difficult cycles of violence and retribution that often plague congested urban areas like the Aroma Compound.
