His remains, already cremated, were officially turned over to his family two days later on November 19.
According to police, concern began to build early that morning when coworker Joseph Camaongey repeatedly tried calling Montebon but received no response.
The lack of communication was unusual, prompting Camaongey and several colleagues to visit his boarding house by early afternoon.

When they arrived around 1:30 p.m., the group found the door locked from within.
They also noticed something else unsettling: Montebon, known among coworkers for his loud snoring when asleep, was strangely silent.
Unable to enter and getting increasingly worried, they slipped a cellphone through a small opening to take a photo of the room.
The image showed Montebon lying motionless on the floor, leading them to immediately alert police authorities.
Responding officers and Scene of Crime Operatives (SOCO) assessed the scene.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Jake Catane, who is handling the case, said initial findings point to the possibility that Montebon died in his sleep.
A heart attack has been considered as a likely cause, though no official medical conclusion was established.
While an autopsy was recommended to confirm the cause of death, the family chose not to proceed and instead signed a waiver.
Relatives shared with investigators that Montebon had been extremely overworked in recent weeks.
Aside from serving as a supervisor for a container van company, he reportedly took on extra work as a ride-hailing driver, raising concerns that fatigue may have taken a toll on his health.
Police have not indicated any signs of foul play.
