A report on GMA News 24 Oras said Jayboy Magdadaro did not hesitate to face the rising waters just to help his neighbors in Barangay Jubay reach safety.
He reportedly brought residents to higher ground by placing them one by one on a small boat.
The rescue lasted from morning until late afternoon, even as the rain poured and the current stayed strong.
Jayboy said he kept going because he heard people calling for help.
His courage came from his daily habit of skimboarding at sea, which helped him move through the water with confidence.
As a recognition of his bravery, the Liloan local government awarded Jayboy a scholarship that will support his studies all the way to college.
It can be recalled that Typhoon Tino brought heavy rains and strong floods to parts of Cebu, leaving many areas submerged and residents trapped in rising water.
Several communities struggled as streets turned into deep flood zones, making rescue efforts difficult.
In Liloan, the floods became so severe that people needed boats to reach safer places.
The storm caused fear and damage, but it also showed acts of bravery as neighbors helped one another during the height of the disaster.
