In a heartbreaking yet heroic story from Barangay Mabigo in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, a 29-year-old mother gave her life to save her 2-month-old baby boy and her own mother during the sudden flooding brought by Typhoon Tino.

Frances Angela Garilao Pecson, a chemical engineer working at URC Sonedco in Kabankalan City, was swept away by the violent current on Nov. 5—but not before ensuring her loved ones were safe.

Family members said Angela’s final moments were defined by pure courage.

A post shared on Facebook recalled how “Angela tragically lost her life during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino in Canlaon. Even in her final moments, she displayed extraordinary courage—doing everything in her power to protect her 2-month-old baby and save her mother before being swept away by the strong floodwaters.”

Her sister-in-law, Joniah Idyll Pecson, wrote on GoFundMe that “in her final act of love and courage, she managed to keep her baby safe—but sadly, she was swept away by the strong current and did not survive.”

Angela was among the 20 fatalities reported in Canlaon at the height of the disaster.

Joniah described her as “a loving wife to my brother, Jasper, and a devoted new mother who only wanted to give her child a good life.” Now, Jasper faces life as a single parent while coping with the magnitude of their loss.

To help the family recover, Joniah has launched a GoFundMe drive to support funeral expenses, the baby’s needs, and rebuilding efforts.

She appealed for support, saying, “Any amount, no matter how small, will mean so much to our family during this painful time.”

In a previous report by KAMI, a family of three was mercilessly shot and killed inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. Caught by CCTV, three men entered their store, closed the roll-up door, and shot the entire family to death. Before fleeing, one of the suspects even grabbed a bag and a mobile phone from the victim. In a report by Gary De Leon of TV 5's 'Frontline Pilipinas,' the family started getting threats after lending P1-M to one of the residents of their barangay; allegedly using the money for business.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big argument.
