A 65-year-old woman from Catbalogan, Samar, died after returning to her house to save her pet cats at the height of Typhoon Uwan, according to a report by Joseph Morong on "State of the Nation" on Monday.

The woman became trapped inside her home as the storm battered the city.
The typhoon’s strong winds and rain devastated coastal areas, destroying the homes of about 20 families living near the pier.
Catbalogan Mayor Dexter Uy said the disaster struck during high tide, worsening the flooding and destruction in the city.

Elsewhere, the powerful storm caused widespread damage across several regions.
In Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, a landing craft tank was driven ashore by the waves, crashing into a seawall.
Authorities confirmed that there were no damaged corals and no oil spill from the incident.
In Iloilo City, massive waves damaged a home and an establishment, while sand carried by the storm clogged drainage systems and led to flooding.
In Bacolod City, strong currents brought trash to the shoreline and destroyed several houses, prompting the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents across Negros Island.
Rescue teams in Zamboanga City faced waist-deep floodwaters as they used heavy equipment to pull stranded vehicles and rescue families.
The local government reported that over 2,000 families from 12 barangays were affected by the storm.
Meanwhile, in Butuan City, several homes were damaged after trees fell due to strong winds.
Passenger vessels have since resumed operations as weather conditions improved in some areas.

Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big argument.
