Two injured as electronic billboard collapses amid typhoon “Uwan” in Quezon City

Two people riding a motorcycle were injured on Monday morning when part of an electronic billboard collapsed from a building and struck them during the onslaught of Typhoon “Uwan” in Quezon City.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the incident occurred at the Aurora Boulevard–Katipunan Service Road southbound around 9 a.m., at the height of strong winds and heavy rain sweeping through the area.

“Dalawa ang sugatan dahil sa insidente. Nangyari ang insidente pasado 9 a.m. sa gitna ng malakas na hangin at ulan sa lugar,” the MMDA said in a statement.

A report by Allan Gatus on Super Radyo dzBB said that both the rider and his passenger were immediately brought to a hospital for treatment.

The motorcycle driver reportedly sustained cuts and was complaining of chest and shoulder pain, while his companion suffered facial swelling due to the impact.

Authorities also confirmed that a car passing by was struck by debris from the collapsed billboard, damaging its bumper.

Responders promptly arrived at the scene to clear the area and assist the victims.

The MMDA reminded the public to remain cautious during typhoons and to avoid traveling near large structures or signage that could become hazardous in strong winds.

Local officials are expected to assess the stability of other billboards in the vicinity to prevent similar incidents as Typhoon “Uwan” continues to bring inclement weather to parts of Luzon.
