A 58-year-old father was killed after being repeatedly struck with a wooden stick and a shovel by his own son inside their home in Davao City on Tuesday night.

According to a report from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Wednesday, the brutal incident occurred in Barangay Tapak.

Initial police findings revealed that the victim was quietly drinking coffee when his 30-year-old son suddenly arrived carrying a piece of wood.

Without saying a word, the suspect allegedly struck his father with the wooden object multiple times.

Moments later, he reportedly grabbed a shovel and continued hitting his father until the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are considering personal anger or a long-standing family dispute as the possible motive behind the killing. Investigators are still determining the circumstances that led to the violent attack.

Residents in the area were shocked by the crime, describing the father and son as having occasional disagreements but never expecting it to end in such tragedy.

Police swiftly apprehended the suspect, who is now under custody and will be facing a parricide charge—a grave offense committed by a person who kills a close family member such as a parent or spouse.

Authorities are continuing their investigation while the suspect remains detained, as the community mourns the senseless loss of life caused by an act of rage within the family home.

In other news, a 15-year-old student was killed and two other teens were injured in a fatal road crash in Pampanga. The incident stemmed from a social media "fistfight challenge" that turned into a deliberate roadside ambush. The crash was caused by the primary suspect, a 24-year-old mechanic, throwing a liquor bottle at the victims' motorcycle. The main suspect has been arrested and charged with murder, but three accomplices remain at large.

Still in other news, an eight-year-old child died after being hit by a dump truck while crossing the road in Brgy. Camflora. The victim was only running an errand for his mother when the incident occurred. Two young cousins drowned while swimming in the river on the border of Pagbilao and Lucena City. Authorities recovered the bodies of the victims in different sections of the river.
