Woman found dead inside Cebu church; police probe foul play

Authorities in Liloan, Cebu are investigating the death of a woman found inside the San Fernando El Rey Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion on Friday morning, October 24, 2025.

The victim, estimated to be around 30 years old, had a head injury and blood on her nose when she was discovered lying near the back pews around 9:00 a.m.
According to a report by Nikko Sereno on "GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak," the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said they also observed markings on her neck, raising suspicions of foul play.

A church staff member told investigators that a scream was heard from inside the church before a man was seen exiting the premises.
Barangay officials tried to locate the man, but he could no longer be found.
A cleaner also recalled seeing a man sitting alone inside the church earlier that morning, before later discovering the woman near the offering table.
Chief investigator Police CMS Arni Goc-ong said authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspect and determine what happened.
In a statement, Rev. Fr. Joseph Larida, moderator of the San Fernando El Rey Parish, said, “The matter is now under investigation, and the parish is fully cooperating with the proper authorities to ensure that justice and due process are served.”
All masses and parish events will temporarily be held at the Parish Pastoral Center.
