A tragic road accident in Gerona, Tarlac claimed the life of a car driver and left his one-year-old child in critical condition after their vehicle was struck by a dump truck.

The collision, which also involved several other vehicles, occurred along a stretch of highway identified by police as prone to accidents.
According to a report by Ivan Mayrina on "GMA News 24 Oras" on Friday, authorities said the truck driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle before it veered into the path of the victims’ car.
“‘Yung truck biglang nag-swerve nang konti doon sa left side, so approaching po ‘yung ating kotse doon, Sir, so doon nagkabanggaan. Nawalan daw po siya ng kontrol doon sa makina,” explained Police Lt. Col. Edilberto Santiago, acting chief of the Gerona Police.

The father was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while his one-year-old child remains confined in the intensive care unit. The child’s mother survived the crash.
Reports said the lawyer representing the truck’s owner has already reached out to the victims’ family.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the dump truck driver is currently under police custody as the investigation continues.
“Itong highway talaga ng Gerona ay accident prone talaga ‘yung area diyan. Ang [tendency] talaga, matutulin kumpara sa mga ibang lugar,” Santiago noted.

Still in other news, the Ombudsman directed the NBI and BFP to investigate the DPWH building fire in Quezon City. DPWH confirmed that no documents related to flood control anomaly investigations were affected. The fire reportedly started from a computer explosion inside the Bureau of Research and Standards. No employees were injured, and officials are assessing the extent of the damage.
