The alleged gunman, who was promptly arrested by authorities, is allegedly an active police officer.
The victims were identified as 26-year-old Joshua Madamba, a local village councilor (kagawad), and his 30-year-old live-in partner, Eloisa Jane Pagaduan, an online accounting staff.
The fatal shooting occurred late Sunday afternoon while the couple was simply enjoying a moment of respite on their porch.
According to reports from GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the two victims were sitting outside their home when two individuals arrived on a motorcycle.
Without warning, the passengers opened fire on the couple, unleashing a brutal and swift assault.
The village councilor, Joshua Madamba, was reportedly killed instantly. His partner, Eloisa Jane Pagaduan, was rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life, but tragically, she also succumbed to her wounds.
The assailants initially fled the scene, but authorities, acting swiftly on eyewitness accounts, eventually managed to track down and arrest one of the suspects.
The shocking twist came when the arrested individual was identified as an active member of the Philippine National Police (PNP). A manhunt operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the second suspect.
While the arrested police officer has denied the grave accusations, formal charges of double murder have already been filed against him.
Police investigators are focusing on a possible personal relationship between the suspect and the female victim, Pagaduan, suggesting a devastating case of a crime of passion.
The possibility of a twisted love triangle fueling such a brutal, targeted attack involving a sworn officer of the law has sent ripples of outrage and grief through the community and the nation.
The PNP has reportedly moved swiftly to initiate dismissal proceedings against the corporal, with Ilocos Norte officials emphasizing that no member of the force, regardless of rank, is above the law and justice must be served.
Pagaduan's mother expressed her profound anguish over the incident, particularly the cruel reality of losing two lives—her daughter and her daughter's partner—to what is suspected to be a devastating act of jealousy and rage.
Authorities continue to coordinate with the families for further testimony and investigation.
