A police operation to serve an arrest warrant turned deadly in Barangay San Cristobal, Calamba City, Laguna, resulting in the deaths of two civilians—including a 4-year-old child—after a shootout on October 15, 2025.

Authorities were serving a warrant of arrest against a suspect facing a h&micide case when violence broke out.

“During the service of the warrant of arrest, initially successful, nakuha po natin siya,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Dennis de Guzman, officer-in-charge of the Calamba Component City Police Station, during a press briefing.

However, the situation took a tragic turn when armed men suddenly opened fire on the police team.

“Noong binabasahan na siya ng Miranda Rights, bigla pong in-ambush yung apat nating operatiba ng tatlong male factors armed with multiple firearms, one of which is a magazine-fed shotgun, isang caliber .38 at saka isang caliber .45,” de Guzman added.

Aside from the 4-year-old victim, a 57-year-old civilian was also killed in the crossfire, while two police officers were injured in the incident which left many shocked.

One of the suspects involved in the gunfight was arrested, while authorities continue to track down another who managed to flee.

The suspects are set to face multiple charges, including resisting arrest, disobedience to a lawful order, two counts of murder, two counts of frustrated murder, and violation of the illegal possession of firearms law.

In other news, a lawyer was arrested in Quezon City for allegedly duping victims through fake investment offers. She reportedly took ₱140,000 from a couple, promising weekly profits of ₱5,600. Police said she had previously been jailed for a similar case but went into hiding after posting bail. Authorities urge other victims to file complaints to elevate the case to syndicated estafa.

Still in other news, a classroom ceiling at Lapu-Lapu Elementary School in Davao City collapsed during class on October 7, 2025. Approximately 40 Grade 4 students sustained minor injuries but were safely evacuated. The quick execution of the 'duck, cover, and hold' drill by the teacher helped prevent serious harm. School authorities have reported the incident to DepEd and DPWH, and the school has shifted to a blended learning setup.
