The post added that while the city mourns his passing, it also celebrates his life — one that was fully devoted to public service, unity, and love for Tacloban.
His remains are at the Heritage Memorial Park in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, from October 18 to 22.
Romualdez served as Tacloban’s mayor from 1998 to 2007, leading the city for nine years.
He was the younger brother of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, uncle of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and father of current Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
During his leadership, Tacloban was recognized as the first “1st Class Highly Urbanized City” in Eastern Visayas.
However, his name also appeared in Civil Case No. 0010, or “Republic vs. Alfredo T. Romualdez, et al.,” filed by the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) in 1987 to recover alleged ill-gotten wealth from the Marcos administration.
