An 80-year-old woman was rescued after being held hostage for two hours by her drunken son inside their home in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City, on Saturday night, October 18.

Barangay watchmen immediately contacted the Mandaluyong City Police–Sector 6 after the victim managed to peek from their balcony and call for help.
Within 10 minutes, members of the Special Weapons and Actions Team (SWAT) arrived on the scene.
According to Police Captain Juanito Arabejo, commander of Mandaluyong City Police Sector 6, the operation took nearly an hour of negotiation before authorities stormed the house.

The layout of the residence, provided by relatives, helped officers plan the rescue.
“Do’n tayo nakakuha ng chance na kung paano siya papasukin. Pagpasok po ng SWAT natin doon, nandoon po ‘yung suspek, nagulat po siya. ‘Yung nanay po niya [ay] nasa kwarto, binabantayan niya. So, hindi makalabas ‘yung nanay niya,” said PCapt. Arabejo.
Police recovered a replica firearm used by the suspect to threaten his mother. Investigators are still determining the motive, but reports revealed a pattern of abuse whenever the suspect was intoxicated.
“Allegedly, sabi ng nanay niya, ‘pag ‘yung anak niya [ay] nakakainom, sinasaktan [siya ng anak niya],” Arabejo added.
The elderly victim underwent a medical examination due to extreme fear. Authorities are now preparing to file charges against the 53-year-old suspect.
