Authorities said the young victim was asleep when the fire broke out and was unable to escape. Her mother was reportedly out selling goods at the time of the incident.

The barangay reported that approximately 70 families, or more than 400 individuals, lost their homes.

They have been temporarily relocated to the covered court of Juan Sumulong Elementary School while awaiting modular tents from the local government.

Officials are also looking into reports that the fire may have started on the second floor of one of the houses, where residents were able to rescue a two-year-old child.

The BFP continues to investigate the exact cause of the blaze, while local authorities coordinate relief and assistance for the affected families.
