A tragic ultralight aircraft crash in Concepcion, Tarlac, claimed the lives of a young pilot and his female passenger, both reportedly in their late teens.

Authorities said the victims were residents of Mabalacat City and Macabebe, Pampanga.

The wreckage was discovered in a rice field in Barangay Panaliciscan at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, and was reported to police authorities at 12:35 p.m.

Responding personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival due to severe injuries.

In response to the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced the grounding of all operations of Woodland Airpark.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), upon the instructions of Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, has grounded the entire operations of Woodland Airpark following the crash of an ultralight aircraft in Concepcion, Tarlac on Saturday, October 18, 2025, resulting in two fatalities,” the agency stated.

CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario said Secretary Lopez has ordered a full safety and operations audit to ensure compliance with aviation safety standards.

CAAP further reminded that ultralight aircraft, categorized as Non-Certificated Type Aircraft under the Philippine Civil Aviation Regulations, are meant for recreational flying only and must operate within approved airfields under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

The agency vowed to impose sanctions on those who violated safety regulations.

Still in other news, a classroom ceiling at Lapu-Lapu Elementary School in Davao City collapsed during class on October 7, 2025.
