Female purok chairman shot dead outside her home in Cauayan, Negros Occidental

A 34-year-old female purok chairman was killed after being shot multiple times outside her home in Sitio Mana-uban, Purok 5, Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Sunday night, October 14.

According to the investigation by the Cauayan Municipal Police, a group of armed men arrived at the victim’s residence around 6:30 p.m. and ordered her family to stay inside the house.

The suspects then called the victim outside, spoke to her briefly, and moments later, opened fire, hitting her several times in different parts of the body.

The purok chairman died instantly due to multiple gunshot wounds. The suspects immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting.

Authorities recovered several pieces of evidence from the crime scene, including a shell casing from a 5.56mm rifle, an empty cartridge from a 7.62mm rifle, two deformed bullets, and a deformed slug.

These findings suggest that the perpetrators used high-powered firearms in the attack.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing but are not ruling out the possibility that the incident may be linked to the victim’s position as a local community leader.

Investigators are currently gathering statements from witnesses and reviewing nearby CCTV footage to track down the gunmen.

Meanwhile, residents of Barangay Lina-on expressed fear and sadness over the incident, calling for justice for their slain chairman.

The Cauayan Municipal Police continue to pursue leads to identify and arrest those responsible for the brutal attack.
