A former employee of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Region 10 was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday night, October 10.
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Niruh Kyle Antatico, a Juris Doctor graduate and former legal researcher III of NIA-Northern Mindanao.
He was known for exposing alleged corruption and irregularities within the agency.
Reports said Antatico was ambushed around 7 p.m. while driving his Nissan sedan along Zone 1, Crossing Patag.

The back rider of a motorcycle pulled out a gun and fired several times.
His car lost control and crashed into a parked truck. Responders from Oro Rescue rushed him to J.R. Borja General Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police are now conducting follow-up investigations and a manhunt operation to find the suspects behind the shooting.
Cagayan de Oro Representative Lordan Suan condemned the killing and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Antatico. He described him as a brave man who fought for truth, justice, and clean public service.
Suan said the attack was not only against one person but also against the values Antatico stood for. He urged law enforcement to move quickly and ensure those responsible are arrested and punished.
He also extended his condolences to Antatico’s family and vowed to continue the fight for truth and accountability in honor of his legacy.
