Businessman Christophe Bariou has called on Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon to investigate alleged corruption and questionable projects in Siargao Island.

His lengthy social media post, titled “Siargao Deserves Accountability,” exposed what he described as decades of political greed and corruption that have damaged the island and burdened its people.

Bariou, who is also the partner of actress and environmental advocate Nadine Lustre, said he has lived in Siargao for 11 years and tried to support local livelihoods.

Despite this, he claimed to have faced harassment and pressure from some local politicians for opposing projects linked to corruption.

One of his main concerns is the continuation of the Union-Malinao Bridge Project, which he and Lustre opposed due to environmental risks and possible displacement of residents.

According to Bariou, the project pushed through even after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ordered it stopped due to falsified approval documents.

He said such projects continue because most locals lack resources and legal protection to fight back.

He also alleged that after Typhoon Odette in December 2024, some relief goods were diverted for political gain and that certain operators were granted “special logging permits” for money.

Bariou revealed he was offered ₱50 million to stay silent about the bridge issue but refused, saying, “We don’t make deals with corruption ever.”

Following his refusal, he claimed their businesses faced random inspections and permit delays, prompting him to file complaints that the Anti-Red Tape Authority later resolved in his favor.
