CCTV footage reviewed by the Manila Police District (MPD) shows one armed suspect entering the house and immediately opening fire on the unsuspecting man.
The gunman then fled the scene to a waiting companion or group of accomplices. The victim was pronounced dead on the spot.
Police Major Philipp Ines, spokesperson for the MPD, stated that initial investigations point toward a dispute over control of illicit operations, specifically mentioning tampering with utility services such as water and electricity, as the likely motive behind the execution-style killing.
This indicates a deadly turf war among criminal elements operating within the densely populated Tondo district.
The MPD has acted swiftly on leads gathered from the incident's "backtracking" investigation, which tracked the movements of the suspects back to the same Aroma Compound.
Authorities were able to successfully locate and apprehend one of the three identified suspects. However, the arrested individual has denied any involvement in the shooting.
The police spokesperson further confirmed that the alleged gunman and the lookout, the two remaining suspects, have been positively identified and are now the subject of a massive ongoing manhunt operation.
The authorities' rapid response and the capture of one suspect signal a strong commitment to bringing the perpetrators of this shocking domestic murder to justice.
The incident highlights the volatile nature of crime in impoverished areas of Manila, where disputes over illegal control can quickly escalate into fatal violence, even targeting individuals within the sanctity of their homes.
The MPD is urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the capture of the remaining suspects and ultimately dismantle the network of illegal activities that fueled this deadly confrontation.
