President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the country’s new Ombudsman, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced on Tuesday.

Remulla will replace Samuel Martires, whose seven-year tenure concluded in July.

His appointment comes after a rigorous selection process by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), which shortlisted seven candidates from a total of 17 applicants for the key position.

In a statement, the PCO emphasized that Remulla’s appointment aligns with the administration’s firm resolve to combat corruption across all levels of government.

“As Ombudsman, Remulla is expected to uphold transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and ensure that justice is administered fairly and efficiently,” the PCO said.

The Palace also underscored that there will be “no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses,” stressing that public office is a public trust and that any betrayal of it will be met with accountability.

Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s adherence to transparency, fairness, and the rule of law as part of its vision for a Bagong Pilipinas that delivers honest and effective governance.

Remulla’s move to the Office of the Ombudsman marks a significant transition in his public service career, having served as Justice Secretary since 2022.

His appointment is expected to bolster ongoing government initiatives aimed at institutional reform and the pursuit of justice for all Filipinos.

Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla is a seasoned lawyer, legislator, and public servant currently serving as the Ombudsman of the Philippines. Before his appointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in 2025, he held the position of Secretary of Justice, where he oversaw major legal reforms and initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s justice system.
