The incident, which highlights the pervasive danger faced by essential workers, is being investigated by local authorities as a robbery that escalated fatally.

The victim was making a food delivery run in Barangay 190, Zone 20, when he was accosted by three suspects.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find the rider slumped next to his motorcycle.

Pasay Police Chief Police Colonel Joselito De Sesto reported that the crime appeared to be a robbery gone wrong.

The suspects, who were reportedly loitering near the street corner, successfully grabbed the rider's cell phone initially.

However, the victim managed to fight back and retrieve his device, a brave act that unfortunately provoked the suspects.

“Nakatambay lang ‘yung mga suspek doon sa corner ng street na ‘yun. Kinuha nila ‘yung cellphone, kaya lang naagaw din ng victim. So nung maagaw ng biktima, dun na, binaril na nung mga suspek,” explained Colonel De Sesto.

The rider was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to the fatal gunshot wounds he sustained, reportedly to the head.

The ensuing chaos was partially captured on nearby CCTV footage, which showed the three suspects fleeing the scene.

The video notably showed one of the individuals briefly returning to retrieve his armed accomplice before they made their escape through a nearby alleyway.

Based on the footage and subsequent investigation, police were able to identify two of the three suspects.

According to Colonel De Sesto, both identified individuals have previous criminal records.

“Bale itong mga suspects natin, nahuli na natin ‘yung dalawa last 2019,” the official disclosed. “May kaso silang illegal possession of firearms tsaka illegal possession of drug5. Malamang hindi rehistrado ‘yung baril na ginamit.”

This history suggests that the suspects were career criminals, which underscores the extreme risk the delivery rider faced in simply trying to hold onto his property.

The Pasay City Police have launched an immediate manhunt operation to capture the three suspects, who will be facing charges of robbery with hom1cide.

The case is yet another painful reminder of the dangers street crime poses to ordinary, hardworking Filipinos, whose livelihoods often require them to be vulnerable targets on the road.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for increased police visibility and stricter measures against repeat offenders, to protect those who keep the economy running, often at great personal risk.
