A search and rescue operation was launched but had to be suspended due to the worsening weather.

The operation resumed the following day with the combined efforts of Bantay Dagat, the Philippine Coast Guard, and local responders.

At around 6:47 a.m. on Saturday, personnel of Bantay Dagat recovered the body of Marcelino. Shortly after, at 7:18 a.m., Coast Guard teams discovered the body of Joselito floating in the waters off Barangay 6.

The recovery was confirmed by Coast Guard Substation Tuburan Commander Rose Marie Balunga.

Authorities reminded coastal residents to strictly heed weather advisories and avoid venturing out to sea during storms, emphasizing the dangers posed by strong winds and rough waves.

The Sueltos’ deaths brought sorrow to the fishing community of Tuburan, highlighting once again the risks that fishermen face when livelihood pressures force them to brave dangerous seas.
