The discovery, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, is being regarded as a miracle due to the infant's survival despite being left exposed.

The live infant was found on the roadside along the bypass road in Barangay Carig. A concerned citizen or passerby reportedly discovered the box and, upon checking, was stunned to find a living baby inside.

The discovery prompted an immediate call to the local police. The baby, whose age and gender were determined to be a newborn boy by medical personnel, was immediately secured by law enforcement before being rushed to a nearby medical facility for a check-up and necessary care.

Initial reports indicate the infant was stable but required immediate medical attention due to exposure.

Following the medical assessment, the baby was turned over to the local office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The agency is now tasked with providing temporary custody and finding a suitable environment for the infant, which will eventually lead to permanent placement through foster care or adoption proceedings, guided by the Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act.

The Tuguegarao City Police are actively investigating the heartbreaking case to identify and locate the person responsible for the abandonment.

Authorities are reviewing available CCTV footage from establishments or street cameras along the bypass road, a common strategy in tracing vehicles or individuals who may have left the baby.

The police have also appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of the child's parents, while reminding them that the act of abandonment carries severe legal consequences.

Under the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, the person responsible for leaving a minor or helpless person in a vulnerable situation may face charges of Abandonment of a Minor or Abandonment of a Helpless Person, with penalties escalating depending on the age of the child and whether the abandonment results in serious injury or death.

The DSWD is working closely with the police, emphasizing that while the focus is on the baby's welfare, the parents must be held accountable for this criminal act.
