Authorities have withheld the suspect’s identity.

According to Wilfredo, the store attendant on duty, he noticed the man grabbing ice cream from the freezer and attempting to leave without paying.

Wilfredo quickly blocked the exit to stop the suspect, but instead of settling the matter, the man fought back, leading to a scuffle inside the store.

During the struggle, the store’s glass door was damaged. Witnesses nearby then intervened, with several residents joining in to subdue the suspect.

However, the situation escalated when the crowd repeatedly beat him before restraining him and calling the police.

In an interview with K5 News FM, the suspect admitted that he only wanted to eat ice cream, something he claimed he had not tasted since childhood.

His statement drew mixed reactions online after the incident was reported.

Police officers from Station 7 arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. He sustained multiple injuries from the beating and is now under medical observation while facing possible charges of theft and property damage.

Authorities reminded the public to let law enforcement handle such cases and to avoid resorting to mob justice.

They also reiterated the importance of proper security measures to prevent similar incidents in commercial establishments.
