Police Lieutenant Colonel Rovelita Aglipay, the chief of the Baggao Police Station, stated that initial investigations suggest the victim may have failed to notice the sandbags placed along the side of the bridge, which served as a makeshift barrier.

The SUV reportedly hit the sandbags, sending the vehicle toppling off the bridge and into the river below. It landed upside down, and a portion of it was submerged in the water.

Authorities who responded to the scene worked to extract the driver from the wreckage. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Lt. Col. Aglipay noted that the heavy downpour at the time of the accident likely affected visibility and contributed to the crash.

"Matindi po yung ulan during that time. Upside down ang kaniyang posisyon (ng SUV). Kapag ganoon ang hitsura ng sasakyan, ang biktima [driver] ay ganoon din ang hitsura. Kahalati ng katawan niya ay nakalubog sa tubig," she said, describing the difficult circumstances rescuers faced.
