A deadly ambush in Cotabato City claimed the life of a barangay chairwoman’s husband and left their two young children injured, while a tricycle driver was also killed after being hit by a stray bullet.

According to a report on "Balitanghali" by GMA Regional TV on Wednesday, the family was traveling together in a vehicle when they were suddenly attacked.

The barangay chairwoman was with her husband, who was driving, and their children when four gunmen aboard two motorcycles opened fire at them.

The husband, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His wife was hit in the shoulder, while their children suffered minor injuries from the incident.

The violence also claimed another life—a tricycle driver who was passing through the area.

He was struck by a stray bullet during the hail of gunfire and died as a result.

Police investigators recovered more than 60 shell casings from firearms of different calibers at the crime scene, evidence of the intensity of the attack.

Authorities said the assailants fled immediately after the shooting.

Investigators are currently looking into personal grudge as a possible motive behind the ambush.

The incident has heightened concerns in the city, with residents calling for swift justice and stronger measures to prevent similar attacks.

Authorities are continuing their investigation as the community reels from the brazen daylight assault that left two dead and a family traumatized.
