Fritz admitted that their household had been tapping electricity from a neighbor’s supply, Aksyon Radyo Bacolod reported.
He also clarified that there had been no quarrel with his partner prior to the fire. At the time of the incident, they were asleep inside the house.
The homeowner recalled that they woke up after experiencing difficulty breathing due to smoke.
Upon checking, they discovered that the second floor—where they had been resting—was already on fire. The family immediately rushed to escape the burning structure.
Masip further confirmed that the property was not rented but was indeed owned by Fritz and his family.
The Bacolod City Fire Station continues its investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials are also reminding residents of the dangers of unsafe electrical connections, which remain a common fire hazard in urban communities.
