A 9-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a canal and being carried away by rushing floodwaters in Iligan City.
The incident happened on Wednesday in Barangay Puga-an.
According to reports from GMA Regional TV, the young student was with her cousin when her slipper fell into the canal.
She tried to get it back but slipped and fell into the water. The strong current immediately swept her away.

Her cousin narrated that the girl struggled to reach for the slipper but lost her balance.
The force of the floodwater made it impossible for her to get out of the canal.
Rescue teams from the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) confirmed that her body was later found in Barangay Tubod.
The discovery brought sadness to residents who witnessed the tragedy.
Authorities are still working to contact the family of the victim to get their side and extend support.
The heartbreaking accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of flood canals, especially for children playing or walking near them during the rainy season.
Local officials urged parents to be extra cautious and remind their children to stay away from flooded areas and canals to avoid similar accidents.
