A student was injured in a road accident in Tabaco City, Albay after being struck by a speeding motorcycle while already crossing at the pedestrian lane.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV on "Balitanghali" Friday, CCTV footage showed the student walking across the pedestrian lane.

The victim had nearly reached the other side of the road when a motorcycle, moving at high speed, suddenly hit him.

The impact was so strong that the student was dragged several meters before finally coming to a stop. The rider was also thrown off his motorcycle from the force of the collision.

“Nakalampas na siya sa kabilang bahagi ng kalsada at doon na siya nasalpok ng motorsiklo na dire-diretso ang takbo,” the report noted.

Police said both parties later reached an agreement that the rider would shoulder all medical expenses for the student, who is still recovering in the hospital.

Authorities reminded motorists to strictly observe traffic rules and speed limits, especially when approaching pedestrian lanes, which are designated for safe crossing. They also stressed the importance of vigilance on the road to avoid endangering lives.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, with calls for stricter enforcement of traffic safety measures to protect pedestrians, particularly students who use pedestrian crossings on their way to and from school.
