The brutal shooting has left authorities investigating a possible motive linked to the victim's personal relationships.
According to a report from Police Station 4 Commander Police Major Peter Tajor, the victim had just completed a trip and was still inside his vehicle when the gunmen on a motorcycle approached and fired multiple shots.
The driver sustained at least seven gunshot wounds to his head and body, dying instantly at the scene.
Major Tajor stated that the nature of the attack points to a premeditated killing. The police are now looking into the victim’s personal life for clues, particularly a relationship he had.
"Wala gyud ni siya gasaba kung na ba siya’y threat," Tajor said, "Ang iyang naistorya sa iyang mga suod nga naa siya’y nauyab nga usa ka igsuon nato nga Maranao."
This detail has become a significant lead for investigators, who are now considering whether the killing was a crime of passion or a dispute stemming from a clan-related issue.
Authorities are also trying to get a statement from the victim's last passenger, who had just alighted from the vehicle when the shooting occurred.
Police have successfully contacted the passenger by phone, but she is a woman who reportedly feels shaken and is afraid to come forward in person.
Major Tajor assured the public that the police are trying to convince her to provide a formal statement, emphasizing that her cooperation is crucial to the investigation.
The police are also reviewing all available CCTV footage in the area in hopes of identifying the suspects.
The incident is a chilling reminder of the dangers faced by TNVS and other public transportation drivers, who are often vulnerable to criminals and other threats while on duty.
The police have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, but the case highlights the need for stronger security measures and greater awareness for drivers operating in high-risk areas.
The full details of the victim's identity have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
