The incident, which unfolded on Thursday afternoon, ended a brief chase that began when the suspects' vehicle failed to stop for inspection.

The confrontation began when law enforcement officers set up a routine checkpoint along a major thoroughfare in Barangay Sumilang.

According to the Quezon Provincial Police Office, the two suspects, who were traveling in an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV), were flagged down by police.

Instead of complying, the men reportedly opened fire on the officers, prompting an immediate defensive response.

The police immediately pursued the AUV, which sped away from the checkpoint in a desperate attempt to escape.

The high-speed chase came to a halt when the officers were able to corner the suspects' vehicle. A second, more intense gunfight ensued at the new location.

When the exchange of fire ceased, police cautiously approached the vehicle to assess the situation.

Inside the AUV, authorities found one of the suspects deceased. The second man was found dead just outside the vehicle.

The police reported zero casualties on their side. The suspects' names have not yet been released pending proper identification and notification of their families.

The Quezon Provincial Police Office revealed that the two men had a criminal history, which included multiple murder cases.

They noted that some of these cases had been dismissed, while in others, the complainants had withdrawn their charges—a common occurrence in cases involving hired killers who intimidate or bribe their victims’ families into dropping the case.
