According to GMA News, the unnamed sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, confirmed that the US is actively pursuing Quiboloy's transfer to face justice.

"The US is seriously seeking the extradition request and taking the necessary steps with the Philippine government in bringing him to justice," one source told GMA News Online.

The same source added that the Office of the President is aware of the request.

Quiboloy, the founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), was indicted by a federal grand jury in California in November 2021 and has since been placed on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) list of most wanted fugitives.

The charges against him include conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; sex trafficking of children; and bulk cash smuggling.

The development comes as Quiboloy is already in custody in the Philippines, facing his own set of criminal charges.

He is currently detained without bail for qualified human trafficking and is also facing charges for violating the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

The extradition request is being handled in accordance with the 1994 extradition treaty between the Philippines and the United States.

The treaty stipulates that all requests must be submitted through diplomatic channels and supported by comprehensive documentation detailing the identity and probable location of the individual sought.

If the request is granted, both nations will then negotiate the date and location for the transfer.

Philippine Ambassador to Washington Jose Manuel Romualdez has deferred all inquiries on the matter to the Department of Justice, which, along with the US Embassy in Manila, has not yet issued an official statement.

This silence from official channels underscores the sensitivity of the case, which has drawn international attention.

The extradition request marks a significant step in the ongoing legal saga surrounding Quiboloy and could ultimately determine whether he faces trial in the United States.
