Elsewhere in the Philippines, violence involving foreigners has resurfaced in recent months, though such incidents remain relatively infrequent.

In March this year, the body of a Slovak tourist, Michaela Mickova, was found in an abandoned chapel on Boracay after she had gone missing—two persons of interest are now in police custody.

Meanwhile, in 2024, two foreign nationals engaged in money-lending businesses—a Pakistani and an Indian—were both shot dead in separate ambushes by unidentified gunmen in Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao del Sur.

These incidents underscore a worrying, albeit isolated, pattern of deadly attacks targeting foreigners in the country—ranging from robbery or ambush-style killings to more mysterious cases like the Boracay death.

As the MPD’s new task force continues to investigate Friday’s killing in Manila, heightened attention to these cases reflects growing concern over the safety of foreign visitors and expatriates, and highlights the importance of swift, transparent responses from law enforcement.

Still in other news, the parents of two of the students injured by falling debris in Quezon City have issued a statement detailing their sons' conditions and calling for accountability. The families are requesting an expedited investigation and plan to pursue legal remedies against those deemed negligent. The parents expressed gratitude for the support received and acknowledged the assistance of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and other local officials.
