The Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13) is mourning the death of a police officer who was electrocuted while serving a search warrant in Surigao del Sur.

Police Patrolman Jankent Tuazon, a member of the 1301st Maneuver Company under the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 13, was part of a team tasked to implement a search warrant for Republic Act (RA) 10591 or illegal possession of firearms on July 25 in Barobo, Surigao del Sur.

According to police, the subject of the warrant intentionally activated an electric fence system, resulting in Tuazon’s electrocution.

“Tuazon was rushed to a medical facility for treatment in the area and was transferred to a hospital in Butuan City,” Police Major Jennifer Ometer, PRO-13 information office chief, said in an interview on Thursday.

After weeks of fighting for his life, Tuazon passed away on August 10. The suspect has since been arrested, and an additional criminal case was filed in connection with the incident.

On Thursday morning, PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV visited Tuazon’s wake in Loreto, Agusan del Sur.

“His untimely passing leaves a profound void not only within his bereaved family but also in the hearts of all who had the honor of serving alongside him,” Magistrado said.
“We stand in solidarity with his family in this time of sorrow and assure them of our full support. His gallantry continues to inspire us to serve and protect at all costs,” the PRO-13 said.
