The Department of Transportation (DOTr) took action against a driver who allowed a young child to drive while sitting on his lap, after a video of the incident spread online.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said that letting a child drive without a student permit is against the law, especially when the child is still very young.

He added that the President has repeatedly reminded the public to follow the law because violations like this can lead not only to a suspended license but also to possible jail time.

According to a show cause order from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the incident took place on August 12 at the parking lot of a mall in Parañaque City.

Authorities stressed that the rule is meant to protect both the child and the public from accidents that could happen if unqualified individuals operate a vehicle.

By setting this example, the DOTr hopes to send a strong message to drivers to strictly follow road safety laws and ensure that only licensed and capable individuals are allowed to drive.

This case also serves as a reminder that social media can play a big role in exposing violations, as the viral video helped authorities take immediate action.
