MPBL: Jonas Tibayan drops unconscious with a broken jaw after a brutal punch from Michole Solera

A violent foul in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has led to a lifetime ban and a P200,000 fine for Gensan Warriors’ Michole Solera.
The sanction came after Solera struck Mindoro Tamaraws forward Jonas Tibayan in the face during a game Monday night at Batangas City Coliseum in the 1xBet-MPBL 2025 Season.
The hit sent the 6-foot-3 forward crashing to the floor.
According to the league, Tibayan sustained a concussion, a broken jaw, a busted lip, and a fractured shoulder from the impact of the fall.

MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes said the decision was made after reviewing game footage.
He strongly condemned the act, saying it endangered player safety and damaged the league’s image.
He called it one of the worst incidents he had ever seen in basketball and emphasized the league’s authority to impose sanctions for such behavior.
The penalty on Solera is the highest in MPBL history, surpassing the P100,000 fine given in 2024 to Germy Mahinay of the Negros Muscovados for undercutting Zamboanga’s Joey Barcuma, which also resulted in a lifetime ban from GAB.
Solera now risks facing a similar lifetime ban and license revocation from the Games and Amusements Board.
After the hit, Tibayan was stretchered out of the court and rushed to a local hospital.
He was later transferred to New Era Hospital in Manila for further evaluation and treatment.
Despite the incident, Mindoro went on to win the game 76-72, improving their record to 13-10 and moving just behind the Warriors’ 13-9 standing in the 30-team elimination round.
