A quiet dinner turned into a deadly tragedy Friday night after a gunman barged into a small rented home in Barangay San Gregorio and opened fire, killing a 30-year-old mother and her seven-month-old baby girl.

At around 8 p.m., Rhea Lunar was cradling her infant while eating dinner when an armed man suddenly entered and shot them.

Rhea’s 58-year-old mother was also injured in the attack but is now in stable condition, while their helper was unharmed.

The baby was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while Rhea succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.

She sustained six gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber firearm; her baby was hit three times.

The victims’ family remains in shock.

“Wala naman ako maisip na kaaway, wala silang kaaway,” said Rhea’s brother, Renato Lunar. “Sobrang sakit, sobrang hirap, mahal naming yung kapatid namin,” he added.

Renato said his sister had only been renting the house for three months and had been running a small pares business there for just eight days.

According to San Pablo City Police chief, Police Lt. Col. Redante Tiraña, the attack was deliberate.

“Ang target talaga dito ay yung mag-ina kasi yung lola ang tumama ay fragment na lang ng bala,” Tiraña said.

“Talagang sinubaybayan, plinano talaga ito ahead kasi pabalik-balik yung motor, kumuha pa ng tiyempo yung suspek natin,” he added.

Police described the gunman as wearing a black jacket and pants, with a lookout in a black helmet, jacket, and pants. Authorities are continuing the investigation.

The driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double hom1cide and serious physical injuries.

Still in other news, four individuals were injured in an explosion on Tayuman and Dagupan Streets in Tondo, Manila. The blast was caused by a dismantled air-conditioning compressor that was being scavenged. One of the victims sustained a severed hand and another suffered a jaw injury, while two others had minor injuries. The Manila Police District's Explosive Ordnance Division and Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating the incident and have ruled out a bomb as the cause.
