According to police reports, the victim had been performing maintenance work inside the seven-meter-deep structure when the incident occurred.

His companion, who was assisting from above, made an attempt to pull him out but was unable to lift him to safety.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, the co-worker quickly sought assistance from barangay officials.

Responders managed to retrieve the victim from the well and rushed him to the local rural health unit.

Unfortunately, medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.

Capt. Alex Vizarra, chief of the town’s police, confirmed that no hazardous chemicals were involved in the accident.

Instead, the victim likely succumbed to suffocation due to poor air circulation at the bottom of the well, a risk heightened by its extreme depth.

Authorities are reminding workers and residents to take extra precautions when entering confined spaces such as wells, especially those with limited airflow.

The use of proper safety gear, harnesses, and breathing equipment can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

The incident has raised concerns in the community over occupational safety, particularly for manual laborers tasked with dangerous jobs in rural areas.

Local officials are now considering stricter safety guidelines to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
